"A rollicking good time!"
That's the best way to describe "There's a Higher Power," a new Chicagoland musical tribute that traces the life and times of the Louvin Brothers – two of country music’s finest and most influential harmony singers.
Don't miss this fun-filled journey, highlighting the Louvin Brothers' amazing rise from the cotton-fields of Alabama to the very top of the country music world.
Born into poverty in rural Alabama in the 1920s, the Louvins began singing gospel music as a duet while in their teens, later becoming stars of the Grand Ole Opry in the 1950s and writing songs that have become country classics. Their unique harmonies and songwriting style had a major influence on later artists – from Johnny Cash and the Everly Brothers to Emmylou Harris and Elvis Costello.
“There’s a Higher Power” explores the Louvins' complicated sibling relationship, telling their colorful story with both dramatic and comedic moments. Featured are songs from each era of their lives and careers (including an entertaining and light-hearted simulation of an old-time 1930s church revival).
Louvin Brothers music performed ranges from gospel songs such as “The River Jordan” and “The Weapon of Prayer” to secular hits like “Cash on the Barrelhead,” “If I Could Only Win Your Love” and “My Baby’s Gone.”
“There’s a Higher Power” runs approximately 90 minutes without intermission. For music festivals and other settings, a condensed 45-minute-set version of the show is available.
